The Tragedy Of Juliet and Romeo

The Tragedy Of Juliet and Romeo

Montagues and Capulets have fought all their lives. Romeo falls in love with Juliet, the moment he sees her. But what if she never liked him back?

Have a small recap on Romeo & Juliet here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zxrjfrd/revision/1#:~:text=It%20is%20a%20tragic%20love,being%20separated%20from%20one%20another.

“No Romeo, I never thought about you that way," Juliet said, sitting in the brim of the window in her room. Romeo had climbed all the way up to her window. He looked disappointed but didn’t lose the spirit.

“Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night”, he expressed. Juliet frowned.

“Well, you’re just 16. Trust me, there are more beautiful people than me. Also, stick to normal language. It’s hard to catch up”, she said.

“You remember you kissed me? How would you explain that?”, Romeo questioned her back. She swallowed in confusion.

“Romeo, I’m barely 13. What do you expect me to do? The kiss was just the adrenaline rush. I didn’t know why I did that. You kissed me, and I kissed you back. That ended there. I don’t want to be the reason for a bloody massacre”, she told him.

“Romeo, I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong hints, but I didn’t mean any of it. I shouldn’t have kissed you,” she said before leaving her room.

Romeo came back from there, to his best friend, Mercutio. He cried hard, and couldn’t stop the tears flowing out. Mercutio was confused about what happened. Till the day before, he was crying over Roselyn, whom he couldn’t stop thinking about. So, Mercutio had planned to take him to the Capulet’s party, just for a distraction. And he was crying for another girl again. He let out a big sigh and helped Romeo get better.

The next day, Romeo should’ve moved on. Or must’ve at least found some coping strategy to forget his infatuation for Juliet. But he started following her, wherever she went. He stalked every activity of her and rejoiced to see her. Might look romantic from his point of view, but it was creeping out Juliet after a point. Her friends Evelyn and Albany advised her to stay quiet and ignore him. He even tried persuading her to fall in love with him.

Its not like she didn’t want to be the start of a fight, so she didn’t fall in love with him. The reason was simple, she didn’t like him. She was getting irritated by him stalking her, so she went to Friar Lawrence to complain about him so that he’ll put some wisdom into his brain. But he went on explaining how good Romeo is, and how he will be a good husband, once they get married. So, she had no other option, but to tell her cousin, Tybalt.

Tybalt, an angry aggressive young man, has been waiting all his life to pick a fight with Romeo. He went straight to Romeo and called him for a sword fight. Romeo tried avoiding him, as it might not look good on him to fight with his love’s cousin, but he insisted. A crowd formed around them, and everyone cheered. Juliet arrived there in disguise too.

They both were too good with their swords, but Romeo had the better edge. He defeated Tybalt to the ground and enjoyed his victory. Tybalt, in shame, took the dagger and tried killing Romeo, but he quickly saw it coming and pushed the dagger away. In reflex, Romeo pushed his dagger into Tybalt’s chest, leading to his instant death. Juliet was shocked and came out of her disguise.

“Enough is enough, you can’t go kill my people”, she said.

“Juliet, please understand the love I have for you. It’s priceless!”, he exclaimed.

Before he could complete his sentence, Juliet took Tybalt’s dagger and pierced Romeo’s heart, poetically and literally. Romeo smiled in pain and spoke his final words.

“I’ve always imagined my death. Glad the love of my life presented it!”, he said, before he let out his last breath. Juliet was perplexed, annoyed, and borderline disgusted.

“What’s with men and romanticizing everything? Can’t believe he thanked me for killing him. Thank Zeus I didn’t feel anything for him”, she said before she moved away.

People of Verona learned about the word consent after this incident. Boys make sure the girl is also interested in them before they get into the romantic stuff. Montagues and Capulets ended their fight in some years, bringing peace to Verona.
