“I’d like to thank the honorable Chief Guest Arputham, my department HOD Verona, my co-ordinator Jeyaraj, my best friend Deepan, the faculty, and fellow students who spent their valuable time being here!” Pavithra ended the event, which was followed by thundering applause. I was awestruck by her daring act of including my name in the Valedictory speech. Most of them didn’t seem to notice, but her HOD was stunned and confused by her sudden inclusion in their decades-old template. Pavithra winked from the stage and disappeared into the crowd that escorted the chief guest. Pavithra and I’ve been friends for almost three hundred days now, ever since she texted me after reading my blog. She was the first enthusiastic fan outside of my friends for my writing. She genuinely loved all my works and pointed out the few she didn’t. She had invited me to her college for a random workshop on “Girls and how they should be protected.” It was the most backward speech I’ve heard in years. But of co...

Karen-um Naanum! ❤️

Image
Karennnnnnnnnn!   “One year ah wait panni kudikuren indha coffee ah,” I told. She looked up in awe. Then she smiled. “Aaamaaaaaa Deepaaaannnnnnn”, no exaggeration, she said that, the same way I’ve written. “Karen, naan onnu sollanum,” I told. She sipped her coffee again. She was all ears. What did I tell her? Solren. Before that, who is she? Karen is the first girl to talk with me from college. So, I immediately felt so good, thinking about how my beautiful profile picture has attracted her to speak with me. Later, I got to know the bitter truth that she texted everyone in the college and introduced herself. So, first bulb-uh. Talking about coffee, I asked her if we could have a coffee together. She said yes. But that coffee didn’t happen. I got busy with my personal life, and she was there, but I never cared to look back at her. A year passed by, and destiny brought us together again for a book fair, for which we both volunteered. This time, I was in the ‘I have nothing to lose’ m...

Need a Drink?

Image
“Finally, your house”, I pointed. Isha looked at me. “Yeah, so here we end up your birthday celebrations”, she told, with genuine happiness. She extended her arms to hug me. I smiled and hugged her back. “So, straight to sleep or you’re going to text with your sweety ah?”, I laughed. “Shut up, he’ll be drunk. It’s ‘Even’ Saturday, right?”, she looked into her phone. “Ahhh, 19 years of my life. Wish I get to drink too”, I looked at myself in the car's rearview mirror. I looked grown enough with the unshaven beard. “You haven’t touched alcohol?”, she looked shocked. Well, I was shocked too. “You’ve drunk? Did he make you drink? Was it even your decision?”, my eyes widened. She never told me before. “Stop blaming him for everything. Why I shouldn’t drink myself ah? Why men are like this!”, she grunted. I hung my head low. “Sorry! Don’t hate me on my birthday!”, I kept my eyes as soft as possible. “Forget it. Let’s drink?”, her eyes widened, in excitement. She tol...

Madly, Deeply! ❤️

Image
Madly, Deeply!  ❤️   The watchman was wide awake, unlike in the movies, sleeping. It was 1’o clock already. He was scrolling through reels and the volume was enough to keep him awake for the rest of his career. I took out my phone and connected it to the Bluetooth speaker. I searched for the worst song possible. The worse and loud, the good. I played Saami Saami, and it reverbed through the speaker in the opposite direction, a few yards away. He looked up and went in the direction of the sound. I jumped over the wall and stood low, while he was distracted. I am inside the college, Rithi challenged me to get in if possible. I called Rithi and waited for her to pick up the call. “Call after five minutes”, she said, as soon as she picked up the call. “I’m in your college”, I replied. My legs were already shaking. “Oh, great. Go check out our canteen for some donuts. It is the best”, she said, sarcastically. “Please be serious, which side is your department?”,...

Ever been in love? ❤️

Image
Ever been in love?  ❤️   Heyyy! Happy Valentine’s Day…. Wait a minute. What are you doing here at my blog? Oh, if you’re reading my story now, probably, you’re celebrating the day alone as I’m doing. Okay Okay, we’ll jump into the story? Once upon a time, there lived… Nahhh! Too boring. We’ll see something mainstream? Walking down the street, Sivakarthikeyan had a bouquet in his hands… No, too dramatic. We’ll do something, we’ll walk around the city, and see how people are confessing their feelings for others. So, have you ever been in love? Do you know how it feels? Hushhhh! Oh, wait, something is happening. Let’s go watch. The whole car shook. Deepan tried to unjam the car door but ended up failing. He screamed out of frustration and banged the window for help. No one was around, it was pitch dark. He was restless and started searching the dashboards. He checked the seat covers, under-car mats, and the boot space. A sharp sound intervened in his search and st...

Along With The Breeze!

Image
Along With The Breeze !   I stood on the empty eerie road, alone. No dogs, no vehicles, and absolutely no life. I heard her steps. I ran to the end of the street and peeked from behind a wall. Was it her birthday? No. Was it my birthday? It has been only a day since I turned 18. So, definitely no. Why did she ask me to come to her house, on a cold, scary night, like this? I checked my watch. It was almost midnight. Then I put my head out from behind the wall, to see her extend her hand out of the gate. She wore single bangles in both of her hands. She stepped out, and I saw her wearing a black Kurti . Her eyes searched around, probably looking for me, while her earrings dangled in the air. The street light made the nose stud twinkle and she bit a small portion of her lip, looking around. She called me. I attended the call. “Deepan, where the fuck are you!”, she asked politely. I smiled as I came out from behind the wall. She wasn’t excited, clearly. I went straight...

Mental Manadhil! ❤️

Image
Mental Manadhil!  ❤️   “Deepannnnnnnn!”, shouted some girl on top of her voice. I removed my headphones, adjusted my boxers, and went out to see who it was. It was Apsara, standing before my house. I had to look again properly, to see if it was happening, real-time. It was her, in a bright-colored formal shirt and ankle-length beige pants. She looked up ready for something and I sensed something was up. “Deepan, come down, with your scooter keys and your wallet. Hurry up”, she said, breathing in and out fast. I ran in, took my wallet, and I had around 400 with me. I took the keys and went down to give them to her. As soon I went down, she held my hands and took me towards the scooter. “Hey! What’s happening, leave me! Where are you taking me!”, I exclaimed. “Deepan, wake up. And come with me. It’s something important…” said she, in a serious tone. “At least, let me wear something decent. These boxers are too revealing”, I said, turning pink. “…. And urgent...

Give Me Your Hand! 💓

Image
Give Me Your Hand! 💓   We had to walk all the way to her home. Arun took away his scooter and left for his home, for an urgent errand. He promised that he will pick me up from Nakshatra’s house. So, I took the job of dropping her at home. The road was empty and silent. One or two stray dogs were busy searching through the garbage. I looked straight, even though my mind was struggling between millions of thoughts. I wanted to look at her, but no. Already, she had noticed me staring at her, and it became embarrassing. I didn’t want to look like a stalker. I looked at her. She looked pretty, ah no. Gorgeous, nope. She looked pink. Yes, pink. Don’t ask why. It's my adjective for explaining her. Perfectly outlined eyes, sharp nose, evenly shaped teeth, and post-pimple bumps made her look pink. I took my phone out, turned on the selfie camera, and looked at myself. I looked as if I was the ugliest person existent on the Earth. “Oh Mister, you look great. Now please put ...
