“I’d like to thank the honorable Chief Guest Arputham, my department HOD Verona, my co-ordinator Jeyaraj, my best friend Deepan, the faculty, and fellow students who spent their valuable time being here!” Pavithra ended the event, which was followed by thundering applause. I was awestruck by her daring act of including my name in the Valedictory speech. Most of them didn’t seem to notice, but her HOD was stunned and confused by her sudden inclusion in their decades-old template. Pavithra winked from the stage and disappeared into the crowd that escorted the chief guest. Pavithra and I’ve been friends for almost three hundred days now, ever since she texted me after reading my blog. She was the first enthusiastic fan outside of my friends for my writing. She genuinely loved all my works and pointed out the few she didn’t. She had invited me to her college for a random workshop on “Girls and how they should be protected.” It was the most backward speech I’ve heard in years. But of co...

Karen-um Naanum! ❤️

Image
Karennnnnnnnnn!   “One year ah wait panni kudikuren indha coffee ah,” I told. She looked up in awe. Then she smiled. “Aaamaaaaaa Deepaaaannnnnnn”, no exaggeration, she said that, the same way I’ve written. “Karen, naan onnu sollanum,” I told. She sipped her coffee again. She was all ears. What did I tell her? Solren. Before that, who is she? Karen is the first girl to talk with me from college. So, I immediately felt so good, thinking about how my beautiful profile picture has attracted her to speak with me. Later, I got to know the bitter truth that she texted everyone in the college and introduced herself. So, first bulb-uh. Talking about coffee, I asked her if we could have a coffee together. She said yes. But that coffee didn’t happen. I got busy with my personal life, and she was there, but I never cared to look back at her. A year passed by, and destiny brought us together again for a book fair, for which we both volunteered. This time, I was in the ‘I have nothing to lose’ m...

18 Years Young! ❤

Image
18 Years Young!   I've become a bit predictable, right? Well, my fault. Anyway, this is once again a birthday article about a person, who I actually love. Well, before you get to any conclusions, I’ll inform you that the person is me! The special thing is, this is my 18 th birthday. I don’t know about others, but I've always waited for my 18 th birthday. Why? I'll list it below. ·         I've always been restricted to watch 18+ movies, and had missed many famous films. I caught up with Vada Chennai on Vijay TV, but Super Deluxe is still waiting for me on my watchlist.   ·         I've always wanted to drive our scooter with confidence, especially not expecting Appa to appear on the junctions I pass. I’ll get my license soon.   ·         I was too eager to end the jeopardy rule of the ruling party, by registering my vote. They held elections tw...

Enga Annan! (Binny!) 💖

Image
Enga Annan! (Binny!) 💖   Turning 18 years old, here’s the story about a Lion. No, he ain’t a fan of the Singam series. He is truly a lion. That’s why I call him that. No, not a fan of Kadaikutty Singam either. Shut the Soori in your brain. Shall we start? From the empty roads in Krishna Nagar to the vast, but again-empty roads in Sipcot, we both became mature. We didn’t realize each other’s presence and how helpful it is until he spaced around 45 km away from me. We weren’t responsible for this and there was nothing we could’ve done. Starting out to dig my old memories, we have always been in the same team, no matter what’s the festival. We also speak all the nonsense no one can even imagine. We apply our knowledge wherever possible. Recalling those days now, it has always been a ‘Outshining’ competition. Mostly he used to win, as he would easily blame that am 4 months younger than him.

Revisiting The ‘Why Not’ Girl! ❤

Revisiting The ‘Why Not’ Girl! ❤   So, any guesses who is the ‘Why Not’ girl? Of course, you would know. You would’ve seen the photo preview right! Don't get offended. I sincerely appreciate those geniuses who genuinely found out. This sequel is made for the 17th birthday of a genius I know (Yeah, I can hear you. She's my friend, but still manages to stay genius). It’s our very renowned celebrity,  Chandana. Unpredictable, Surprising, Foodie, Dominator (Not Terminator, read it again), and Always Hungry, were the keywords in my last blog for her. She was really tough to write last time, as it was to be funny and well-explaining at the same time. This time, it turns out it had got only tougher.  You guys have any idea how tough a sequel is? Not just any sequel, it's on Chandana.

Dear Appa! 💓

Image
Dear Appa!  💓  Last year, it was his 49 th birthday. I had started to think of his gift, three months before. I thought of gifting a short film. I wrote the script, rehearsed with the actors well, but somehow, it didn’t happen. I felt so bad for gifting him nothing. I wish I could be my sister sometimes. Last year’s Oct 5 came under that ‘sometimes’. She painted around a betel leaf on an A4 sheet and gifted him. Why couldn’t I be simple? Why couldn’t I gift him something, which was common for my age? I always wanted to surprise him, with different approaches and perspectives. I wouldn’t say all of them are failures. But, failures were most of ‘em. I had always ended up complicating things for him. I would feel bad for my surprise ending badly. But all I could do is, experiment more. This letter to him is an experiment. I have written articles for others, but for Appa, it's different, right?

Nithya! 💛

Image
Nithya! 💛   “When the hell are you going to write about me? You have written about all the other friends from our gang. Why am still left?” If she had asked like this, I would’ve written this blog long back. But she never asked a word. While I was high writing about my friends, she would’ve highly expected an article for her. She 100% deserves it too. But I didn’t write one. It didn’t strike to my mind that she might feel bad about not having an article. One of my friends told me to write about her. I recollected my memories with her, which I felt was poor for a whole article. So, I told I can’t write. That friend told me to apologize to Nithya. I realized how dejected she would've felt and how stupid I had been.

Gubera! 💓

Image
Gubera! 💓   ‘Ulagathin Thalai Sirandha Sol, Seyal,’ said Sivakarthikeyan, before the word ‘‘Intermission’’ came up on the screen. Once it came on the screen, Abishek and I knew, that our friend was going to take the Vishwaroopam of, an accountant. He collected the money we both had, and started to do some calculations. He didn’t have one percent of guilt, of holding on a person (Me!) who has the urgency of using the restroom, since the 47 th minute  of the film. He cooly counted the cash, looked at all the brouchures, and asked me to choose and all. I would've happily chosen restroom, over Panneer Tikka Roll. He saw me doing that Naagini dance and decided to use the restroom first. Yeahhh! I won! How peaceful it was! But, no, it didn't end well. These boys called me out, and I came out with a terror on my face. They took a candid of me, like Ajithkumar opening his Jeep door, but here, instead of a Jeep door, there was the restroom door. This all happened in 2017, a...

Kamalesh! 💓

Image
Kamalesh! 💓   “Deepan, Deepan!” I heard a faint voice waking me. I hardly opened my eyes. I made out that a hand with Bangles gave me a tumbler of some flavored milk. I sprung up, got the tumbler, and sipped it until I got back to my senses. The room was totally different, and so chilly, in contrast to my home. It took me some time to realize that I was in Kamalesh’s house. I slammed my head, for being irresponsible. I came to stay here temporarily, as my parents were out of the station. I laughed within myself, while my mind travelled back to the day, we both met. I don’t know exactly what happened that day, and neither will he, as we met when we were hardly 4 years old. Our parents became too close before we got to know we both existed in the same class. Everything then, (and now too) was Kamalesh for me. He was the first person who accepted me as a friend. I felt so proud then. I used to do whatever he tells then. That much, I loved him.

Chandana! 💓

Image
Chandana! 💓   Okay, calm down, Deepan, you can do this. Guys, Am quite nervous about this. Till now, writing about people was easy, to be honest. But writing about a strict critic, is tough know? Chandana, is the other friend I got from that day at Viba’s. Within 5 mins, she got so settled and started to talk like, as if, we are friends for over a decade. That day I found out, No one can stop her from talking and eating, and the main thing is, while doing the things I mentioned, she forgets the world. Kishore and I were sitting opposite to her, only to see her eat from her lunch box. She saw us seeing her, and I think she never thought to even ask about our lunch status. She smiled at us, and we became ready to extend our hands for some of her food, but anyway, she continued to eat. If you guys knew Tom and Jerry, then you would remember the character Nibbles too. That’s exactly what she is, when hungry. Apart from this, she talks equal rights for women. She doesn’t drag in it...

Cherishma! 💓

Image
Cherishma! 💓   Abiding to the request of readers, it’s a girl this time too. I can hear you shouting, “When did we ask da?” Wait, I’ll answer. Viba holds the record of the highest views for an article I’ve posted. So, definitely, Kanda and Kishore are less interesting, when there’s a girl’s article nearby. Anyway, let’s talk about the star of the article. Cherishma, is the girl am gonna talk about. I got introduced to her through Viba and it happened unannounced in a random group studies session. I spoke really little to her that day, maybe I was afraid of her strict look maybe! There’s another reason too. I’ll say the reason later. We spoke briefly only in our third meet I guess! Whats special about her da? Yeah, I’ll tell you. She’s so different from all of us. When we all are keeping up with friends through Instagram and WhatsApp, she is the person who likes to speak in person. Or, in the least case, a call. So, we rarely see her online. If we see her too, she would hav...

Viba! 💓

Image
Viba! 💓   Guyssssss! Am excited as you are! Yes! It’s a girl this time. She’s Viba, Viba Shravanthi. Looks like BOND... JAMES BOND right! Yeah. Even I felt it. So, I wrote it here, Viba. She gave me Rs.25/- through Gpay to quote James Bond. Yes, she’s atrocious, but the caring, busy ASPL of our school. Yes, sometimes responsible too. Talking about her, the first day we spoke is worth mentioning. We had a mass class shuffling, and I almost lost ¾th of my friends. We, the remaining people took a vow, not to speak or make friends with the new nerdy guys. But promises are meant to be broken. It was me who broke it. Basically being a Thirunelvelian, am a shy type. And those who believe this, thank you for your trust! 😂 I just passed by her that day, didn’t even know she existed in that class till then. She was like, like asking to light up a cigarette, asked me my Facebook ID. I turned to her, wanted to show the shock on my face. Seeing that, she didn’t seem to care. It wasn’t...

Kanda Boopathy! 💓

Image
Kanda Boopathy! 💓   Okay! I’ll start from the first. We are together since LKG. He had been prominently in our gang since then. He was a thin, idiot-looking, funny person then. No one would’ve guessed him to be the best friend one could have. Like everyone, even I didn’t! I didn’t know much of him during our initial days. Or my memory file got corrupted it seems. All I remember is, he used to do whatever I asked him to do. But that request should have some proper purpose, or else you will end up getting a dead stare. In 2014, our Sixth Standard’s December, something interesting happened. We all planned to go to a film. We were 11 year old then. My mom allowed me to choose from which set of slipper I liked to get hit. But she got convinced after Kanda said his father would accompany us. It wasn’t in the plan, and I never wanted him to be disturbed. It was because of Kanda’s father, we had been able to watch movie then. We didn’t know what a big shot he was! I’ll write it ...

Kishore! ❤️

Image
Kishore! ❤️     This write-up is a Birthday special, for Kishore. You think am gonna talk about Kishore’s specialties, right? Yeah, what else would one write on his Birthday! But am gonna differ here. Am going to write what all I did to him. May sound boasting, but still, am sure, its gonna be fun. I met this idiot in my 4 th standard I guess. Oops! Before starting, let me say two things:    Every incident am going to share, comes from my memory, I didn’t cross-check with Kishore. Am Ghajini . So, I met him in my school. He came as a nerdy, new admission guy. He was a shapeless, fat and chubby person (Sorry da). No one ever thought he would become a part of our gang. Even I didn’t think he would join our team, even though I was the one, who went to him first. And I don’t know till now, what attracted me to him.
