“I’d like to thank the honorable Chief Guest Arputham, my department HOD Verona, my co-ordinator Jeyaraj, my best friend Deepan, the faculty, and fellow students who spent their valuable time being here!” Pavithra ended the event, which was followed by thundering applause. I was awestruck by her daring act of including my name in the Valedictory speech. Most of them didn’t seem to notice, but her HOD was stunned and confused by her sudden inclusion in their decades-old template. Pavithra winked from the stage and disappeared into the crowd that escorted the chief guest. Pavithra and I’ve been friends for almost three hundred days now, ever since she texted me after reading my blog. She was the first enthusiastic fan outside of my friends for my writing. She genuinely loved all my works and pointed out the few she didn’t. She had invited me to her college for a random workshop on “Girls and how they should be protected.” It was the most backward speech I’ve heard in years. But of co...

Don’t cry Machan!

Don’t cry Machan!

‘So! That’s tomorrow, right?’

‘Yes! I’m happy its going to end tomorrow.’

‘Lemme come with you da!’

‘Nope, we’ve already talked about this. I’m going, and you’re going to stay home. Kids shouldn’t be at hospital.’

‘Dei! Okay! You know what, you are going to come back, for me.’

‘Hey, am not your girlfriend da! She’ll be busy chatting with someone.’

‘Dei! This for you da! I never want to lose you da!’

‘Machan! Don’t make me lose my confidence now da! I am strong! Don’t spoil it by your amatuer attempts.’

‘Am sorry da! See, I’ve never been in this situation and all da! I feel so lonely and helpless.’

‘Shut up da! Talk something cheerful! Make my sneaking purposeful!’

‘I don’t even know you should sneak or not da! You are straining yourself.’

‘Excuse me! You aren’t letting me speak da! I’m speaking on my own interest!’

‘If that’s the case, then I would never want this night to end da.’

‘Stop speaking Mani Ratnam’s dialogues da! I need to get off these odd vibes around me!’

‘…..’

‘Yeah Mr. Hesitant Machan, I know what you’re hesitating to ask.’

‘I never wanted to ask anything. Am just super scared.’

‘Okay, I want to say this. Listen.’

‘Machan, I can’t really do these talks da…’

‘Shut up and listen. First, let Nivetha know. Inform her. She might stop feeling guilty, atleast, I believe so.’

‘She doesn’t deserve to know anything about you da. She proposed you first, and left you without a reason. Still, you keep her in your mind.’

‘Yeah da, she shouldn’t say that I did the same to her know. Tell her.’

‘You won’t let me to be in that situation, I know. You will be alright.’

‘Ahhh! Drama-king! Listen, secondly, find Rukmani mam, tell her I did my best on that day. I tried literally did everything I could do on that day.’

‘Machan, stop blaming yourself da! Mam knows you gave your best that day. Everyone knew your speech was the best. She personally loved your speech that day. You still have another chance man. Rock this time, and get to the finals!’

‘Yeah, but still, I feel guilty da.’

‘You shouldn’t be da. Do a thing. Upload something in your blog, maybe. She might love it.’

‘Yeah, I have an article ready. Should post it, sometime.’

‘Good. Post it now man. Your fans might be startled at your late time post, but they’ll also be happy to read your writing after months!’

‘Nope, I would never change my trademark! Am still that 6 ‘o clock freak!’

‘You’ll never change man! Okay, who’s it about?’

‘Not a person. Its an emotion. Came out very well this time.’

‘Man, still 9 hrs more ah! Wait, you’ll be having your operation then, know?’

‘Yeah, I’ll schedule it. Don’t worry.’

‘Okay…’

‘Hey! I was laying out my conditions know! You always divert me da!’

‘It had always helped you right! Then what! Just don’t complain.’

‘Anyway, the third thing, the most important thing.’

‘Yes….’

‘You know I started this blog for entertaining people and keeping them away from their sorrows and problems. I hope, I have done my job good till now.’

‘Yes, you have done. Remember? I got out from my depression, only because of your articles.’

‘Yeah, so, if it happens, promise me. You take over my blog. Don’t make my fans cry, with your emotional articles and stories.

And, you must not cry if something happens to me.…’

My hands shivered like anything. Tears rushed out. I couldn’t hear the call recording after that. Even though I wanted to hear his voice, I couldn’t. He had told me not to cry, but my eyes became wet.

I thought, he would win his Tumor like Raghav did, while he suffered Stage IV Brain Tumor. I thought he would win Luther King’ Speech Competition’s finals, like Vishwakumar did. I thought he’ll find Nivetha soon, and sort out everything with her, like Mahesh found Anitha.

But he didn’t. He couldn’t. He knew it earlier it seems. He started a blog and let his spirit fly high. He wrote all, he wanted to achieve. He lived through his blog. He still wants to live. Maybe, that’s why he wanted me to continue writing.

I received a notification. Opened and found it out to be his blog notification. The time was 6:00. My whole body shook. I screamed. Man, how do you expect me to be strong, while you had already predicted what I would do and titled your last blog, “Don’t cry Machan!
