“I’d like to thank the honorable Chief Guest Arputham, my department HOD Verona, my co-ordinator Jeyaraj, my best friend Deepan, the faculty, and fellow students who spent their valuable time being here!” Pavithra ended the event, which was followed by thundering applause. I was awestruck by her daring act of including my name in the Valedictory speech. Most of them didn’t seem to notice, but her HOD was stunned and confused by her sudden inclusion in their decades-old template. Pavithra winked from the stage and disappeared into the crowd that escorted the chief guest. Pavithra and I’ve been friends for almost three hundred days now, ever since she texted me after reading my blog. She was the first enthusiastic fan outside of my friends for my writing. She genuinely loved all my works and pointed out the few she didn’t. She had invited me to her college for a random workshop on “Girls and how they should be protected.” It was the most backward speech I’ve heard in years. But of co...

The Loyola Phase Begins! ❤️

8:10. Still 8kms away from the college. Our vehicle broke down. First day of offline college. Can't think of a better combination, right?

College starts at 8:20, and I thought I would reach by 8:40. Usually, the hero’s entry comes after big anticipation and buildup, right? Yeah, I could sense all your ‘sighs’ and I could also see people trying to exit this article. Wait, here comes the funny part. I missed the whole first period.

That Risky Selfie before Church.

Loyola College is something I’ve dreamt of, ever since I knew I had to do a degree after high school. I had vibrations through my shoes while entering the college. I made it to my block and entered the preview theatre, where the orientation was happening. A boy who’s late for his first class, that’s how my classmates saw me. Seriously, that didn’t go the way I wanted.

Karen singing "Visiri", and Varun beatboxing while Santhosh introduced us what Street Side HipHop was, I was taken aback. Like, their confidence in performing their extraordinary talents, was terrifying for me. Two reasons, one, all I knew was how to make films, which I don’t have a complete project to show to them, and two, I write about my thoughts and stories, where this generation is not into reading anymore.

My thoughts were shattered when Lishwin came to me, asking if I was the person who writes stories in my blog. He should’ve seen me without my mask. I was on cloud nine and would’ve broken down there if he spoke for another two minutes. People started to talk with me, and most importantly, they knew me. Suddenly, the college felt no more terrifying, but a beginning of an amazing journey. Yes, only one week in college, and I could be sure of that.

People here are so friendly. Like, for real. I never knew Isuranga would walk me to the gate, while we had a great conversation. I never knew I would hum songs with Arul while painting in Visual Literacy. I never knew language accent wouldn’t be a barrier between me and Joseph. I never knew I would get caught by Adhitya while texting to my ‘friend’ (The friend is a ‘she’, but believe me, she’s a friend). I never knew Tejas and I would be making a poster for a saloon that will never be inaugurated. I never knew I would have my fellow classmates reading my blog.

The one thing that was bothering me was, I lack self-confidence. Even if I had to fight with a friend, pointing out all the valid points I have, I’ll have to fight with myself to let me come out with it. And to help me with that, I was put into a mentoring group and we had an interaction recently. Everyone had the opportunity to showcase their talents. Even though I did perform nothing, I was happy to see my fellow people having diverse talents. We had a mini jamming session, and even Chithra mam contributed to it. I saw Lishwin having his fast hands solving Rubik’s cube within a minute. Forget solving it within a moment, I’ve never solved a Rubik’s cube in my life!

When Joseph Udo Ali Danced for us!

When Aju, Deo Jose, Varun sung 'Oru Naalil' for us!

Am not saying this mentoring session has made me write this blog. That was never an issue for me. Show me a pillar, and I could write pages about it. The real problem issue for, socializing for me. And this mentoring session has made me face it, by making me share this article in a group full of people I know. Yeah, it might seem to be a small issue, but it had been something hazardous for my career.

The tree under which I got enlightened!

Yeah, so, one week into this college, and it had already started to impact my life. And am happy I could feel positive about the impact it had created.

Let’s see what else it has got for me!
